Mary Candace Evans --Candy --- is a longtime contributing editor to D Magazine and all sister pubs. The first piece she wrote for D in 1981 was about homes -- sort of. It was a cover story called “Crime in North Dallas” that drew the ire of everyone, including the late Stanley Marcus, over a sidebar called “How To Burglarize A Home”. Candace trotted down to a Huntsville prison to interview a prisoner and simply offered readers solid tips from the best. Now she covers Realtors and interior designers, writes design and regular features. She worked with Publisher Christine Allison on the very first D Home issue. Not wanting this to sound like her sister-in-law's holiday card, we'll skip the college/career rah rah. Candy lives and breathes D Home whether crossing Preston from Old Preston Hollow to "New" or touring Scottish castles. She's married to Walter F. Evans II, M D, who knows she wears the pants when it comes to decorating, including patios. They have two children, several dogs and a parrot who recently found her sexual identity.
