The Dream House Thinks Pink
The Dream House is going green. The Trophy Husband and I have spent the last few days in a pink fog. After last summer’s electric bills were edging up to amounts closer to a mortgage payment, we declared war. The first thing we did was switch our electrical provider. I picked this one…and I was tickled pink by their name. But I didn’t stop there…
We sealed and caulked windows. We programmed our thermostats. We upgraded our pool motor to a more efficent model. But, those changes were just a drop in the bucket.
As of yesterday, the entire attic is being coated in a a glorious layer of R30 fiberglass. I’ll be firing up the blower momentarily, and by the time I get done, I’ve got only one thing to say. R60.

OOh my God…
Now you have really gone off the deep end. I know that you are not into the TH camo and stuff, but to make him live in a house that is wrapped in pink…well that’s just too much. And whether you know it or not, the exercise is all about color and not about the economics of saving money on energy. In spite of what your “green” advisors say about “pink” R30, you will likely not live long enough to recover the cost of this boondoggle in energy savings.
Next, I guess we are going to read about your new high energy windows, radiant barrier, solar panels and hybrid SUV. Every time I read another one of your missives, I gain more and more respect for TH and his endurance under the most trying of circumstances.
On the other hand, I must give you and spawn an “A” for effort and good intentions. But you know what they (whoever they are) say about good intentions. I guess the bright side of this for me is that it is your house and TH’s spouse and not my house and my spouse. Enjoy!

Poor Spawn…mom is now cool and comfortable and The Spawn is gagging on pink stuff. Will Owens Corning pick up the tab for making her well again?
Why is it that now that the mansion is cool and comfortable in its new pink puff, TH has chosen to go out and work?
