A Citrus Clean Friday

img42m.jpg I’m getting a maid for today, which makes me feel so rich. (”Feel” being the key word.) Spring cleaning is coming to my house in the form of the new, eco-friendly service Nature Maids. I’ll get back to you with the results, but they come highly recommended by Rebecca. I can almost smell that nice lemony clean smell. Lemon options for you:

  1. Meyer lemon and key lime trees that can be harvested on your porch. $69, at Williams-Sonoma.
  2. Naturally biodegradable Meyer lemon cleaning collection. $9-$29, at Restoration Hardware.
  3. Homemade lemon curd. My culinary school friend loves the recipe in “The Art of Simple Food,” by Alice Waters.

  • Disappointed

The Williams-Sonoma website states that due to “agricultural regulations” the lemon & lime trees cannot be shipped to Florida or Texas. Wonder if there are any great local places to procure said trees? I’ve been dying to get one or both.

Good news! Sunshine Minature Trees at 7118 Greenville Ave., 75231, (214)691-0127 has improved Meyer lemon trees (which grow more fruit), key lime trees, and miniature orange trees for $19.95 to $39.95. Rebecca says her orange tree is thriving. Be sure to get the organic vitamin hormone Super Thrive that Sunshine sells. Put the trees in a good window, or outside if it’s warm. The trees don’t like anything below 40 degrees.

Sometimes, Home Depot and Lowe’s carry small citrus trees. Also, Super Thrive can be bought at Home Depot in the inside garden center. Rebecca told me this was a MUST for my orange tree. I started using it on all of my plants inside and out. I cannot believe the results! Even my aphid attacked hibiscus is blooming and thriving again.
