Dungeons in Highland Park?

I’ve been out walking again, uh-oh, and noticing some new building trends.  I’m not giving any addresses here, so not to worry. The latest scraped corner lots are beginning to look like the foundations are being dug halfway to China - huge, multi-roomed subterranean  holes  are being built to house under-ground garages, wine-cellars, work out rooms, and maybe dungeons.  Probably not the latter, but you never know when you might need one.  Candy, is this a new trend?

It is a trend. Lot sizes (and land in HP) aren’t getting any bigger, and the prices are…so builders are maximizing space any way they can to turn a profit.

  • Interested in one - how much do they costs?

Does anyone have a good idea of how much a basement costs vs typical foundation in Dallas? Being from the mid-west I grew up with a basement and all of the benefits. Its always been surprising to me to hear that some old HP homes have them, yet new construciton for years has avoided them and now they might be ‘in’ again. I think its a great way to have the home theater, wine cellar, play rooms, and informal lounge space.

There is a house at an undisclosed location on Beverly Drive that under renovation to dig out a basement. Now that is a risky venture! It is right in line with the growing dungeon trend!
