Quote from the DMN story yesterday: “‘When you show us a beautiful park with sailboats and a lake,’ he said, ‘then you’d better give us a park with sailboats and a lake. And put the toll road somewhere else.’”From the mouth of the Trinity River Corridor Project Director Rebecca Dugger, “I don’t know why people think you can’t use a sailboat on the lakes. You could do a small sailboat or paddle boats or kayaks. On all the lakes in Dallas–White Rock Lake and Bachmann– there’s restricted use…these lakes would be no different than that.”
Another quote from the story, “”Dallas needs green space, not another highway.” True. But the fact is, the Trinity was born as a way to beef up our flood-control programs and to spend $118 million on transportation upgrades, the entire park and river improvement is an outcropping of the support from The Trinity Trust, who has pushed for a wonderful green space in the middle of our city. Plus it’s the Army Corp of Engineers who want the toll road and they’re going to get a new road anyway. And given the fact that 400+ new people move into Dallas EVERYDAY (Philadelphia is the next highest number and they only have 75 people a day) we need more infrastructure to accommodate them.
