More Green Building in DFW

Just off the Greater Dallas HBA wire: McGuyer Homebuilders, (one of the top 30 residential builders in the country) has decided to get in the green swing of things locally, with plans to build approximately 800 “eco smart” homes annually.  Check it out.

More Property Tax Talk

Interesting piece on local property taxes and how the higher end homes do not match up nor catch up.

“A” for Alo

Just had lunch at the Alo, the newest restaurant from the La Duni peeps. Check out my feedback here.

Dragon St. Doings

dallas_gallery.jpgI just spoke to Joel Cooner, whose stunning gallery will be featured in our September issue, and who has been out of Dallas for six weeks - in Utah, canoing the Grand Canyon, and now in Santa Fe. He’s actually anxious to get back, even when I told him it was 104 yesterday, because he’s so excited about everything happening on Dragon St. Newest transplant? The Pan American Art Gallery is moving from it’s location on Lee Park. Now, he says, the Valley House Gallery is the only hold-out, but he doesn’t think they will leave their pastoral North Dallas setting. Maybe just a little satellite gallery, perhaps?

Will Chairs Always Rule the Throne?

I’ve never considered the subject, but some people say no. Go figure.

Illume Candles

Perfumier to the stars Illume Candles, has launched an on-line boutique and in honor of the launch, you can go to the website and register to win $350 worth of home fragrances like Gardenia, Angel Food, or Coconut Milk Mango. What, are we smelling, or eating and drinking? Well, even if our homes don’t look as grand as Madonna’s or Will Smith’s, at least we can all be smelling Flamenco or Pineapple Cilantro.

RE: House Porn

From reader Tricia Allen Scruggs: “Thanks so much for your post of the NYT article. Wonderful read! When we first married in 2004, my husband and I would ride around and look at gorgeous homes, picturing ourselves in one of them. A year later we bought our “dream fixer,” a colonial in Lochwood Meadows. Painting the front door red was my very first house project. What’s interesting is that the desire to go on those rides quickly subsided after our move. Now the only lustful thoughts I have are of Tuscan villas.
“Well, a few months ago a neighbor stopped by. He couldn’t hold back any longer and just had to tell us how great the lawn looked (it really did look great), that he lives a few blocks away and that while he could take a quicker, more direct route home, each day he takes the one that passes directly in front of our house. We also learned that he wanted to buy our house when it was on the market, but his wife wouldn’t let him!”
