WFAA’s Brett Shipp had a great piece on Channel 8 tonight. Apparently that property tax cut that Texas legislature passed has found its way right back to you–that is, if you’re a Sprint customer.
Apparently Sprint is charging customers a Texas State Margin Tax, exactly the same tax cut lawmakers thought they were giving homeowners, but which, it seems, businesses don’t want to pay on their own, so they’re allowing customers to do their penny-pinching for them. And to add insult to injury, Shipp explained this pass-the-buck tax is being collected by Sprint an entire year before the state property tax cut even goes into effect.
You know, my mortgage company tried to do something similar to me when I closed on my house. They wanted to add $800 to my bill, saying it is something I would be paying in the future once my taxes went up, so I should go ahead and get used to it now. HUH? Good thing I had a Realtor with an eagle eye and a dad with an iron fist.
Oh, and it’s also good I’m not a Sprint customer. Are you?
