Talking about a sale at Yves Delorme reminded me that I was sprucing up my powder room last week before all the holiday parties.
Seeking aqua, I ran way up to Legacy where I love The Iron Bed and found a beautiful aqua French-made tissue box there. I also found a beautiful crystal soap dispenser but gagged at the price-tag: $395. For a bathroom soap dispenser.
“Oh that’s nothing” the store’s designer director told me. “People are spending hundreds of dollars on the powder room.” And they are, without a blink: The matching waste can and tissue holder for this crystal soap dispenser would have added up to well over one thousand dollars–all for powder room accessories.
What am I, getting thrifty in my old age?
I ended up at Yves Delorme where I spotted the most beautiful crystal and gold soap dispenser–more like a decanter with a pump–and threw caution to the wind. Had to have it. As one of my guests put it, it would have been a sin NOT to buy that puppy. Loaded it with aqua-colored liquid soap and–pow. What’s $300. And the fact that I am saving my pennies for the matching wastecan is proof of my true sickness. When something is beautiful and enhances my home, I just have to have it.
Which is why, I guess, everyone seems to be spending thousands on their bathroom accessories.
