ADLER’S TOTALLY PSYC’D

Ladies, ladies, ladies, I am headed to the fabulous Parker Palm Springs this weekend to experience their brand-spanking new Camp PSYC, 4-night, 3-day “camp sessions” filled with summer camp fun for adults hiking, yoga, nap time, and s’mores (with cocktails) around the campfire.

Interesting to Dallas for three reasons, one being this question: Is the high-profile interior designer-hotel the “new black?” I need your thoughts and feedback.

One, if the 88,000 square feet of Jonathan Adler talent and design at the new Barney’s hasn’t caught your eye, where have you been lately? Get out from under that rock, missy. The Parker Palm Springs is his baby on the West Coast.

Two, there seems to be an all-out designer-driven hotel war in Palm Springs right now. Kelly Wearstler’s Viceroy against Adler’s Parker. Who will win? I’ll let you know my opinion. But until then: Will the burgeoning boutique hotel industry identify itself through the interior designers they hire? Will the future mean I stay at “Adler’s Parker” or, say, “Cheryl Rowley’s Palomar” where I eat at “Paul Draper’s restaurant?” Is the high-profile interior designer the new black?

and Three, Palomar developers at Realty America are interested in the Parker’s new positioning, especially since they are redeveloping a similar-feeling boutique hotel in Beverly Hills as I type.
