I made a presentation yesterday to the Northwood Women’s Club, showed recent images from the magazine and generally talked about trends and what was interesting about particular images. The ladies could not have been more gracious, and we dined on cucumber sandwich wedges with the crusts cut off. At first, it’s easy to sort of pooh-pooh the LWL as not having much to do. Until you hear about the 30,000 plus hours of volunteer work they contibuted last year, the more than $200,000 they will donate this year, and the $2.6 million dollars they’ve given in their 29 years to such beneficiaries as Dallas Casa and Rainbow Room. Where would these great organizations be without the unselfish giving of time and money from people who are probably a lot busier than I. And how small and petty that original thought feels now.
