I don’t know if you caught the last editorial in Saturday’s Dallas Morning News: Northwest Airlines is laying off employees and arming them with a guide to saving money, sort of a cheapskate’s gazette for the freshly laid off including savory tips such as buying jewelry at pawn shops.

How about snagging a Viking at Capital’s annual appliance clearance?

Capital Distributing, located in the old Marshall Moody Display building at Stemmons and Inwood, southwest corner–every time I go in there I can still see the giant Santa Clauses waving on the walls–is probably the best spot west of the Mississippi to buy high-end appliances such as Viking, Dacor, Bosch. We are not talking only high-end: when I shopped for appliances for my son’s college house (it is NOT the frat house) in San Antonio, we found GE fridge’s for $500. And when they have their annual sale, it’s like getting a Fendi handbag for $200.

Hmm, I wonder what that Northwest publication says about buying handbags? I love them, but when a purse at Neimans costs more than what my husband gets for delivering a baby, it is time to start designing handbags!
