This amazing tree house, called FlutterBy, was built by HDR, INC., architects for the Dallas Arboretum’s Extreme Treehouses show, which runs through December. There are 12 other elaborate designs, all worth visiting this Fourth of July.
(This description was taken from the exhibit brochure.)
FlutterBy is an interactive experience that incorporates nature and design. The garden is a delicate arrangement of vibrant annual color which attracts the butterfly. A pathway through allows for individual exploration. The large floating wings above provide shade to the structure below. The form celebrates the metamorphosis from caterpillar to cocoon into the fluttering by of the butterfly.
HDR, INC. members who worked on the project include Skip Derbonne, Kevin Ditto, Randy Hagens, Jim Henry, Dan Kames, Martin Krueger, Bill Lavrinovich, Kevin Lynch, Robyn Roelofs, Bryan Sumruld, and Brandi Yancey.
