YES/NO DESIGN BY DIANE LOVE

DianLove.jpg(Photo by Brad Calcaterra) Our copy editor Christine Wilson checked out a book from the library by Diane Love, called Yes/No Design: Discover Your Decorating Style with Taste-Revealing Exercises and Examples (Rizzoli. 2000). I borrowed it from her, but it’s worth buying (There are many $10 hardback copies on Google. I love this book jacket photo of her, it’s so glamorous and retro.

The book is one of the best resources I’ve ever come across to help you find your decorating style, and hence, stop wasting money on things that don’t work. Sit down with your husband/kids/boyfriend/roommate and have them go through the process (it’s fun). You’ll be surprised at the results. Diane Love is not only beautiful, can decorate and write, but she photographed many of rooms in the book (along with Christian Sarramon), is a respected painter, designs jewelry, handbags, and scarves, and was the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s flower arranger at one time. Oh, forgot, she’s also a professional actor. Geez. Anyway, I read the book and used the work sheets, and discovered some things I didn’t know about my own decorating style. If you read this book, e-mail me and let me know what you learned about yourself.
