NEIMAN’S, I HARDLY KNEW YOU

Got in last night from a weekend in Boston, with three of my four daughters. A) It was freezing and rainy. Whatever. It’s Boston. B) Naturally, a visit to Neiman’s was in order. (You can take the girls out of Dallas, but . . .) C) Let me just say, it was the worst Neiman’s I have ever experienced. And believe me, I have been to a number of them. The home department was especially tacky; in addition to the Jay Strongwater shrine, the appeal of which is still inexplicable to me, they had a sea of silk flowers, icky ornate silver, and wannabe blue-and-white. For some reason, I felt it was a bad reflection on Dallas. Which is some kind of cosmic retail dependency issue, I realize. Or maybe this is just a case of serving the Boston market. Thoughts?
