REDISCOVERING ART DECO

opendesk.jpgUntil recently I was ambivalent about art deco, only because I liked it in my twenties when I had no taste whatsoever and because, for some reason, when a gold digger decides to become a “collector,” she usually gets into art deco. Okay, that was really snotty and uncalled for. Anyway, a visit about two years ago to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann retrospective changed all that. This is why I really appreciate the interpretations Manheim-Ruseau has introduced recently, in particular this Makassar ebony desk supported by black lacquer legs (fully-lined in suede). The craftsmanship is meticulous. Manheim-Ruseau is one of the most intriguing studios in Dallas, and I am continually impressed by the breadth of their product lines.
